"This book is something I would definitely take advantage of—it is something all students can relate too. I wish I had something like this for my senior year that explained all the different options for what you can do after high school."

Students and Grads

For some of you, graduation might be just around the corner; and for others, the cap and gown might already be in the attic collecting dust. Regardless of whether graduation is ahead of you or behind you, whether you are off to college or headed out into the world, here are a few questions to grind on:

    • "Where am I going with my life?"
    • "What do I want to do next?"
    • "Why am I doing what I am doing now?"
    • "Is it because I want to, or because I think I have to?"
    • "Have I ever taken the time to figure out what I really want out of life?"

These questions, especially the last one, are what Where’s the Map? is all about. We have found that very few people have taken the time to answer these questions, and that most people are not doing what they want to with their lives as a result. It’s the difference between living life on purpose versus living life by default.

Here are a few things that we here at WTM believe:

#1. You are the author of your life, the creator of your experience.
You can do whatever you would like with your life, you only need to decide what it is you would like to do, believe that it is possible and then go for it!

#2: Your experience in this world is unique.
Even those who THINK they know you really well can’t completely understand your perspective, because they haven’t lived your unique life. Your skills, interests, goals, and dreams are specific to you alone.

Up to this point, your path has been very well defined. You’ve spent a LOT of your life with teachers, family, and friends telling you where to go and what to do. Now that you’re moving on, you might be asking:

“Where’s the map showing me where to go next?”

#3: The map to the life of your dreams is inside you. (What did you think?)
We don’t expect you to know at this point exactly how you want to live the rest of your life.
But you know more than you are letting on. The first step in uncovering this map is to ask yourself a few questions:

• What do I value most in my life?
By taking a good look at your values and preferences, you can begin to create your life intentionally, regardless of how clear or foggy your vision is right now.

• What are my hopes for the future?
Yes, everybody’s got ’em—only sometimes you have to dig a little to find them. This is the place to write down any hopes or dreams for the future, whatever they are. Writing them out gives them more power than holding them inside.

• What do I need to accomplish my dreams?
The sooner you can get clear about what you want to do with your life, the sooner you can share your vision with others and create a network of people to support your dreams.

#4: There are unlimited opportunities available for you.
Your options are limited only by what you believe is possible. Your imagination guides your vision for the future.

#5: Take all the time you need.
Don’t let anyone tell you that you don’t have time to think about what you really want to do with your life. There is always enough time to make these important decisions.

Our goal here at WTM is to provide people with the tools they need to find out who they really are and what they want out of life, and to encourage them to go for it, no matter what it is. If all of this sounds good to you, let’s get started creating the map to the rest of your amazing life.
